About
Free & Open Source
Tray Levels is an independent guide to per-app audio on Windows. It is not the EarTrumpet project, and it does not speak for it.
What this site is
A set of written guides about controlling audio on Windows: what the built-in mixer does, where it stops, and what a third-party mixer such as EarTrumpet adds. Everything here is text. The site hosts no installers, no binaries and no mirrors.
What this site is not
Tray Levels is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the EarTrumpet project, its maintainers File-New-Project, or Microsoft Corporation. Windows and Microsoft Store are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation; they are used here only to describe the software being written about.
Open source, and why that matters here
EarTrumpet is published as an open source project. Its source code, issue tracker, change log and privacy statement are all public. For a utility that runs permanently in your notification area, that transparency is the point: you are not asked to trust a description, you can read the implementation.
The project's own site is eartrumpet.app and its code is at GitHub.com. Treat any other site offering the application as unverified. Repackaged builds of open source Windows utilities are a well-known vehicle for bundled software.
Corrections
Windows changes, and guides rot. If something here is out of date or simply wrong, it should be fixed rather than left standing. Questions about the application itself belong on the project's own discussion board, where the people who wrote it can answer them.
Editorial independence
No one pays for coverage on this site. Nothing here is a paid placement, and no link is an affiliate link. The application being written about is free and open source, so there is nothing to sell in the first place.
